Lost Mine of Phandelver Campaign

I did a thing, lol, I purchased an entire campaign of miniatures for the 5e Lost Mine of Phandelver which is the introductory campaign for the 5e Starter Set.  It's actually a well thought out campaign module that takes the players from first through fifth level.  I've ran the module for friends and family a couple times and I have an idea of wanting to run this at my local hobby store for newbies.

I found this set from 3D Dungeon Labs on Etsy.  It's a brilliant idea, the Etsy shop owner has sourced a number of sculpts from various artists and prints them as a complete set.  I love the selection he's chosen and there are 125 miniatures that makes up the complete set of encounters you need for this game module.

Opening the box I was greeted with a listing of all the models as well as a nice dice set of Orion Nebula Light Blue Galaxy.

What a great way to open the box - a set of really good looking dice.

The models were bagged together by chapter and then individually bagged with a tag stating what the model was - fantastic!  Each of those bags was under a layer of what could be best described as artificial straw packaging.  It certainly did the job of keeping all the models safe.

Here are the models for chapter 1.  In addition, I received some bonus models (they were tagged "Bonus" on the bag) - how awesome is that!

The models printed out nicely.  They're a harder plastic that's more model sprue like than let's say Reaper Bones or pre-painted models.  Most of them have the base separate from the model and will need to be glued.  I'll be painting and posting here in order of the encounters in each chapter.

The vendor has a website at www.3ddungeonlabs.com which has a link to their Etsy shop.  Lots of fun eye candy but I think that I have enough here to keep me busy for a bit.

Reaper Miniatures Orc With Axe - 6017

Early 2000's a group of us were playing 3/3.5e D&D in person and I would paint some of the models used in our games - hence this group posting of Orcs back in 2003.  Our DM moved up to New York and we used early video cameras over dial-up modems looking at miniatures on a map - an early version of a VTT system, lol.

In late 2021 our DM found these four models and sent them back to me.  There were a few dings from time and travel through USPS, so I took the opportunity in early 2022 to patch them up.

Originally, I posted these together, but I've figured out the sku number and I'll take the opportunity to post each individually and backdate this post to February 2022 when I fixed them up before putting them back in the display case.

This is 4 of 4.

So this one is interesting - I couldn't find it on the Reaper Miniatures website on it's own - only as part of a four pack with the code of 6017 - which included two of these models along with two of 2124. As I don't have additional copies of those two miniatures this must have been sold in the past on its own - I also reviewed Lost Mini Wiki and didn't come up with anything there.

Reaper Miniatures Devona, Female Wizard - 77036

This is the third of three heroes for our in-home Temple of Elemental Evil reincarnated campaign which has been published by Goodman Games.  As noted in my barbarian post, I'm painting up a barbarian, rogue, and sorcerer.  The sorceress has the blood of a silver dragon, so this mini has "dragon wings" on the back painted silver.

Painting instructions for Devona, Female Wizard (used Reaper paints)...

Step 1: I'm using Stynylrez primer on the bones models - just slop it on and cover everything - it works great!
Step 2: Use Desert Tan on skin
Step 3: Use Elf Flesh on skin highlights
Step 4: Use Mustard Yellow on hair
Step 5: Use Flesh Wash on hair
Step 6: Use mix of Mustard Yellow and Elf Flesh to highlight hair
Step 7: Use Rusty Red on clothing and staff
Step 8: Use Brilliant Red as highlights on clothing and staff
Step 9: Use Dragon Blue on robe
Step 10: Use mix of Dragon Blue and Elf Flesh on robe
Step 11: Use Blue Wash (Vallejo) on robe
Step 12: Use Filigree Silver on cloth "wings", belt, and gloves
Step 13: Use Dragon Black on base
Step 14: Drybrush Cold Grey on base
Step 15: Drybrush Stonewall Grey on base

Kickstarter paint total 164 + 1 Devona, Female Wizard = 165

Reaper Miniatures Goldar, Male Barbarian - 77047

I'm currently working on three heroes for our in-home Temple of Elemental Evil reincarnated produced by Goodman Games.  It's a beautifully done reprint and expansion of the original T1-4 module produced by TSR.  We're having a great time - I'm repurposing an elven cleric and half-elven paladin for two of the party members and painting up a human barbarian, human rogue, and a half-elven sorcerer.  The barbarian was completed last night and the other two have their base layers done and I just need to add a bit to finish them.

Painting instructions for Goldar, Male Barbarian (used Reaper paints)...

Step 1: I'm using Stynylrez primer on the bones models - just slop it on and cover everything - it works great!
Step 2: Use Uniform Brown on skin
Step 3: Use Stained Olive on cloak
Step 4: Use Rusty Red on axe handle
Step 5: Use Ruddy Brown on leather bits and loin cloth
Step 6: Use mix of Ruddy Brown and Tusk Ivory to pick out feathers of loin cloth
Step 7: Use Dragon Black on metal bits
Step 8: Use mix of Filigree Silver and Retro Slate on metal bits
Step 9: Use Green Ochre to highlight skin
Step 10: Use Faded Khaki as final highlight on skin
Step 11: Use mix of Ruddy Brown and Rich Leather and Faded Khaki to highlight leather bits
Step 12: Use mix of Stained Olive and Faded Khaki on cloak
Step 13: Use mix of Stained Olive and add more Faded Khaki on cloak
Step 14: Use a wash/glaze of Uniform Brown on skin
Step 15: Use a wash/glaze of Stained Olive on cloak
Step 16: Use Dragon Black on base
Step 17: Drybrush Cold Grey on base
Step 18: Drybrush Stonewall Grey on base

Kickstarter paint total: 162 + 1 Goldar, Male Barbarian = 163

Just for fun - I took pictures before using a protective matte finish (above) and afterwards (below).  I always double-coat my game playing pieces - first with Rust-Oleum's Matte Finish protective finish for craft projects - it says matte, but it still has a sheen - however, it does lay a very good protective layer.  Then I hit it with Testors' Dulllcote which brings the shine back down - not completely, but close.  If it's a model that I'm going to use very little and then place onto the display shelf then I'll use the Testors' Dullcote only.  It offers some protection on its own, but the combination of the two makes for an awesome barrier that withstands any abuse I've ever thrown at a mini including drops and I don't have to be careful at all on the game table - just scoop up the minis and throw 'em in a bin when I'm done.

WizKids Skeleton - WZK541

This was a fun Friday night project 19 years in the making, lol.  I purchased back in 2002 a handful of Mage Knight limited edition metal models off of ebay.  These were recasts of the plastic models done in metal and packaged with a Limited Edition base.

The first painted complete was the Noble Archer which I completed in July 2002.

The second painted complete was the Wraith which I completed in September 2010.

I've placed them into one of those display cubes you pick up from the craft stores:

I have one more to complete the cube - the Amazon Warrior Queen - hopefully it won't be another decade before I get that model completed.

The actual painting of this model was done using the paint schema of the Golgath, Eradicator.
